RIYADH — Saudi Arabia has announced fresh financial assistance for the Yemeni government, aimed at supporting the state budget and ensuring the payment of salaries for public sector employees across all sectors.
Saudi Ambassador to Yemen and Supervisor of the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen, Mohammed Al-Jaber, said the support was provided under the directives of the Kingdom’s leadership. In a post on X, he noted that the assistance is intended to help pay the salaries of state employees and ease financial pressures on the Yemeni government.
Al-Jaber said the new support complements a development package worth SR1.9 billion announced on Wednesday. The package includes the provision of petroleum derivatives needed to operate power plants, a step expected to improve living conditions in Yemen and reduce daily hardships faced by the population.
He further highlighted that, starting Sunday, all salaries of military and security personnel affiliated with the Higher Military Committee linked to the Saudi-led coalition will be fully paid.
The announcement comes amid media reports suggesting that former Southern Transitional Council (STC) chief Aidaroos Al-Zubaidi, who has reportedly fled Yemen, had been exploiting military personnel by withholding salaries as a means of exerting pressure. Al-Zubaidi is wanted by the Yemeni government on charges of high treason and corruption.
Al-Jaber stressed that these measures are part of broader efforts to support the Yemeni government’s economic reform program, which seeks to achieve financial and economic stability and strengthen the state’s capacity to meet its basic obligations.
