LONDON: Prince Harry has been dealt an unsettling development from the UK just days before returning for his closely watched High Court trial. The Duke of Sussex’s legal team has been accused of fraud and dishonesty by Associated Newspapers, the publisher of the “Daily Mail”, in the lead-up to the proceedings.
Addressing the court, Harry’s lawyer David Sherborne said the media group planned to pursue what he described as “exceptionally serious” allegations, calling them “wholly objectionable.” In written submissions, Sherborne stressed the gravity of the claims, stating that the accusations were deeply troubling and unfounded.
The development comes shortly before Prince Harry is due to fly to Britain for the start of the case, in which he is expected to give evidence on Thursday. Harry is among seven high-profile claimants bringing the lawsuit, alongside Baroness Lawrence and Sir Elton John.
The group is seeking damages over allegations that journalists unlawfully hired private investigators to plant listening devices in cars, obtain private information through deception, and access confidential phone conversations.Associated Newspapers has firmly denied all accusations.
