Dhaka: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has replaced Bangladesh with Scotland in the T20 World Cup 2026 after Dhaka declined to send its team to India for the tournament, ESPNcricinfo reported on Saturday.
According to the report, the ICC informed the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) of the decision via email on Friday evening, after the board conveyed that the Bangladesh government had not granted permission for the team to travel to India for the event, which is scheduled to begin on February 7.
The BCB, citing its communication with the ICC on Thursday, said it intends to take the matter to the ICCâs Dispute Resolution Committee (DRC). The decision comes amid an ongoing dispute between the BCB and the ICC, with Bangladesh refusing to play its matches in India due to security concerns linked to strained political relations between the two neighbours.
Dhaka had instead demanded that its matches be held in Sri Lanka, which is co-hosting the tournament. Tensions between Dhaka and New Delhi have increasingly spilled over into cricket. Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman was dropped from this yearâs Indian Premier League (IPL) despite signing with a Kolkata-based franchise. In response, Bangladesh banned IPL broadcasts in the country and reiterated its demand to play World Cup matches in Sri Lanka.
