ISLAMABAD (MNN); Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday met President Asif Ali Zardari to discuss the country’s overall national security situation and major challenges, according to the President’s Secretariat.
The meeting took place a day after a quadrilateral ministerial conference in Islamabad, where the foreign ministers of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, and Egypt explored ways to achieve an early and lasting end to the ongoing regional conflict. Following the conference, the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Turkiye also met Prime Minister Shehbaz.
According to the statement, the meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. National Security Adviser and Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence Asim Malik also participated.
Participants held a detailed discussion on the overall security environment, reviewed the evolving regional situation, and assessed its potential impact on Pakistan. They also examined key economic, energy, and security challenges facing the country.
The leadership stressed the importance of a coordinated national strategy and stronger institutional harmony to effectively address these issues.
Last week, President Zardari chaired another high-level meeting attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, along with other senior officials. That meeting reviewed the economic, energy, and regional situation, particularly in light of concerns over oil and gas supplies, and focused on coordination, austerity measures, fuel conservation, and public relief.
