TEHRAN (MNN); Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in an interview with state television, said the United States has failed to achieve its key objectives in the ongoing conflict involving Iran, including a swift military victory and regime change in Tehran.
Araghchi stated that Iran’s response had demonstrated to the world that no country could threaten its security, urging neighbouring states to distance themselves from Washington.
He made it clear that there are currently no negotiations with the United States, adding that messages conveyed through mediators do not constitute formal talks.
The Iranian foreign minister said Tehran does not seek war but wants a permanent end to the conflict, along with compensation for damages caused during hostilities. He added that Iran’s top leadership is reviewing peace proposals but has no intention of entering direct talks with Washington.
Araghchi also criticised the US, accusing it of failing to protect regional countries despite maintaining a strong military presence.
Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, he said it has not been fully closed, but access is restricted for “enemies,” adding there is no reason to allow hostile nations and their allies to pass through. He noted that Iranian forces are ensuring safe passage for vessels from friendly countries.
He further claimed that the war is not fundamentally between Iran and the United States, but rather one driven by Israel, which he said has pushed Washington into the conflict.
Araghchi alleged that the US prioritises Israel’s security above all else, with military bases in the region aimed at protecting Tel Aviv, even at significant cost. He also accused Israel of pursuing a “Greater Israel” agenda involving territorial ambitions across the region.
