RIYADH: China and Saudi Arabia have agreed to enhance communication and coordination on regional and international affairs, according to statements issued after a meeting between the two countries’ foreign ministers in Riyadh. The discussions took place during Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s ongoing three-nation Middle East tour, which began in the United Arab Emirates and will conclude in Jordan.
Wang Yi met Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud on Sunday, where Beijing praised Riyadh’s role in Middle East diplomacy. A joint statement released by China’s state news agency Xinhua did not specify the exact areas of coordination but highlighted China’s support for improved relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran.
The statement also commended Saudi Arabia’s leadership and efforts toward promoting regional and global security and stability. Both sides reaffirmed their backing for a comprehensive and fair resolution of the Palestinian issue, including the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
According to China’s foreign ministry, Wang described Saudi Arabia as a key priority in China’s Middle East diplomacy and a significant partner on the global stage. He also called for expanded cooperation in energy, investment, new energy technologies, and green development.
In addition, the two countries agreed to implement mutual visa exemptions for holders of diplomatic and special passports, the joint statement said.
