ISLAMABAD (MNN); President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday chaired a high-level meeting that underscored the need for national consensus and strong institutional coordination amid emerging regional challenges linked to the ongoing US-Israel war on Iran.
The meeting, held at Aiwan-i-Sadr, was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces and Army Chief Asim Munir.
According to a statement issued by the President’s Secretariat, participants reviewed the broader regional situation and its potential impact on Pakistan’s security, economy, and food stability.
The meeting stressed the importance of a unified national response, highlighting that policy decisions must prioritise stability while protecting public interests.
Officials agreed that economic management, energy planning, food security, and overall security strategies must remain closely coordinated to effectively address the evolving situation.
The discussion also covered the economic and energy outlook, particularly in light of constraints in global oil supplies and rising petroleum prices.
Participants examined the effects of fluctuations in global oil and gas markets on Pakistan’s economy, focusing on controlling inflation and ensuring energy security.
Finance and petroleum ministers briefed the meeting on steps being taken to stabilise fuel prices, manage the broader economic impact of rising energy costs, and enforce fiscal discipline through austerity measures.
The meeting further emphasised the need to raise public awareness about reducing fuel consumption, promoting public transport, and encouraging shared mobility solutions.
