Reuters: Donald Trump said the United States could end its war with Iran soon, adding that Washington may carry out limited “spot hits” if needed after withdrawal. He stated Iran is no longer capable of developing nuclear weapons and indicated the US would leave the conflict shortly.
Trump also revealed he is considering withdrawing from NATO, citing dissatisfaction with the alliance’s support. The conflict, which began on February 28 alongside Israel, has severely disrupted global energy markets. The International Energy Agency warned oil supply losses in April could be double those in March, largely due to Iran’s blockage of the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump said Iran had sought a ceasefire but ruled out talks unless Tehran reopens the key shipping route. Meanwhile, Pakistan, acting as a mediator, has proposed a temporary ceasefire, though no response has been received.
Trump signaled the war could end within weeks, even without a formal agreement. He is expected to outline his strategy in a national address, while US officials suggest potential direct talks with Iran may take place in the future.
The ongoing conflict has caused widespread economic strain globally, with fuel shortages and disruptions affecting multiple industries.
