ISLAMABAD: Security forces successfully thwarted a coordinated wave of terrorist attacks across Balochistan late Friday night, eliminating 67 militants in swift counter-operations, security officials said.
At least 10 police and security personnel embraced martyrdom while defending multiple sites targeted by India-backed militant groups.
According to security sources, terrorists affiliated with Fitna al-Hindustan (FAH) launched simultaneous assaults at 12 different locations across the province. However, prompt and effective action by security forces and law enforcement agencies (LEAs) prevented major damage.
Operations are still underway in some areas as forces continue to pursue fleeing militants, with reports suggesting further losses among attackers.
Tragically, five members of a laborer family from Khuzdar — including a woman and three children — were killed in Gwadar during the attacks, drawing widespread condemnation.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to the fallen personnel, stating that the nation stands united with its armed forces in the fight against terrorism. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to eliminating militancy from the country.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi praised the bravery of security forces, calling the fallen personnel “heroes of the nation.” He emphasized that their sacrifices would never be forgotten.
Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti also visited a blast site in Quetta and reviewed the security situation. He commended the joint efforts of police and Frontier Corps (FC), stressing that such attacks would not weaken the province’s resolve against terrorism.
Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar described the assaults as a “desperate move” by militants, noting that security forces were already on high alert. He confirmed that aerial surveillance and ground operations are ongoing to track down remaining attackers.
The incident follows recent intelligence-based operations in Balochistan in which 41 India-sponsored militants were killed in Harnai and Panjgur districts. Weapons, ammunition, and stolen money from a December bank robbery were also recovered.
According to ISPR data, over 75,000 intelligence-based operations were conducted nationwide in 2025, with the majority taking place in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, underscoring the scale of counterterror efforts in the country.
