DAVOS: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Switzerland on Tuesday to attend the Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2026, being held in Davos-Klosters from January 20 to 22. The prime minister is leading a high-level Pakistani delegation to the global gathering.
Upon his arrival, he was received by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Switzerland Marghoob Butt, and senior diplomatic officials.
In a message shared on X after reaching Davos, PM Shehbaz said Pakistan would use the WEF platform to strengthen engagement with global trade and investment partners. “Pakistan’s ongoing economic reform journey is unlocking significant opportunities, supported by a resilient and entrepreneurial workforce and strong potential in energy, agriculture, minerals and emerging technologies,” the prime minister said.“We are ready to transform this potential into mutually beneficial economic cooperation and long-term investment.”
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, along with other senior officials, is accompanying the prime minister during the visit. According to a statement issued by the Foreign Office (FO), PM Shehbaz is scheduled to participate in several key engagements, including the WEF’s Informal Gathering of World Economic Leaders (IGWEL) session titled “Restoring a Spirit of Dialogue in a Divided World.”
The prime minister will also host and chair a Pakistan-focused high-level business roundtable, bringing together leading international corporate figures. The FO added that PM Shehbaz will hold meetings with world leaders and business executives on the sidelines of the forum. During these interactions, he will present Pakistan’s viewpoint on global and regional peace and development, while highlighting the government’s economic vision, reform agenda, and achievements in trade and investment.
The annual WEF meeting brings together political leaders, business executives, heads of international organisations and civil society representatives to discuss key geopolitical, economic, social and environmental challenges facing the world.
