Web Desk (MNN); The 62nd Munich Security Conference is underway at the Bayerischer Hof hotel in Munich, Germany, from Friday to Sunday, bringing together over 60 heads of state and government, 50 leaders of international organizations, and representatives from at least 115 countries.
On the first day, French President Emmanuel Macron called for “a strong Europe,” while German Chancellor Friedrich Merz acknowledged a “rift” between Europe and the United States.
Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, attended the conference as part of a three-day official visit to Germany, according to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
During the conference, the Field Marshal met with Marco Rubio and other senior officials. Discussions focused on regional security, counter-terrorism cooperation, contemporary security challenges, and enhancing bilateral defence collaboration.
He also held meetings with German officials, including the Interior Minister, Foreign Affairs Adviser, and Chief of Defence. The discussions emphasized promoting global peace and security through both bilateral and multilateral dialogue.
The second day of the conference is expected to host prominent figures including Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and Syria’s top diplomat Asaad Hasan al-Shaibani.
The Pakistani delegation’s participation highlights Islamabad’s engagement in global and regional security dialogue and its commitment to fostering cooperation on defence and counter-terrorism matters.
