ISLAMABAD (MNN); Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir on Friday held discussions with Turkiye’s Chief of General Staff General Selcuk Bayraktaroglu on regional and global security developments, as well as ways to further strengthen bilateral defence cooperation.
According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), General Bayraktaroglu called on Field Marshal Asim Munir at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi. Upon his arrival, the Turkish military chief was presented with a guard of honour by a smartly turned-out contingent of the Pakistan Armed Forces.
The ISPR said the meeting focused on matters of mutual interest, the prevailing regional and international security environment, and prospects for enhancing defence and military-to-military cooperation between Pakistan and Turkiye. Both sides reviewed the existing framework of collaboration and discussed avenues for expanding it in line with shared strategic objectives.
The statement noted that the two military leaders expressed satisfaction over the positive trajectory of Pakistan-Turkiye relations. They underscored the importance of maintaining close coordination and further deepening defence collaboration in view of evolving security challenges.
Field Marshal Asim Munir highlighted the longstanding and brotherly ties between Pakistan and Turkiye, describing the relationship as one rooted in shared history, mutual trust, and strong people-to-people connections. He appreciated the consistent support and cooperation extended by the Turkish armed forces and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral military relations.
General Bayraktaroglu, in turn, thanked the Pakistani leadership for the warm reception and praised the professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces. He reiterated Turkiye’s resolve to enhance defence cooperation, particularly in the areas of training, joint military exercises, and capacity-building initiatives.
The ISPR said the visit reflects the enduring strategic partnership between Pakistan and Turkiye and their shared commitment to promoting regional peace, stability, and security through close defence and security cooperation
