ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has announced special travel facilitation measures for delegates attending the upcoming US-Iran peace talks in Islamabad, allowing visa-free boarding and issuing visas on arrival.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed that airlines have been instructed to permit boarding for all individuals travelling in connection with the talks without requiring a prior visa. He added that Pakistan’s immigration authorities will issue visas upon arrival.
In a statement shared on X, Dar welcomed all participants, including international journalists, attending the Islamabad Talks 2026, which aim to advance diplomatic efforts following recent regional tensions.
Tight Security Measures in Place
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi reviewed extensive security arrangements ahead of the high-level meeting. He termed hosting the talks an “honour” and directed authorities to ensure both security and hospitality for visiting delegations.
A central control room has been established at the Ministry of Interior, while Islamabad’s Red Zone has been sealed, with access restricted to authorized personnel only.
More than 10,000 security personnel, including police, paramilitary forces, and military units, have been deployed across Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Key locations, including government buildings and the Margalla Hills, are under heightened surveillance, with Quick Response Force units stationed at strategic نقاط.
Controlled Movement and Protocol
Strict movement protocols have been implemented for delegates, including designated routes from the airport to accommodations under “blue book” security arrangements. Entry points to the Red Zone have been largely closed, with Margalla Road serving as the only controlled access route.
High-Level Participation Expected
The talks, scheduled to begin Saturday, follow a two-week ceasefire brokered by Pakistan after hostilities that began on February 28.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has confirmed Tehran’s participation, while the United States will send a delegation led by Vice President JD Vance, accompanied by senior officials including Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
Pakistan, under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, has positioned itself as a key facilitator in ongoing diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran, aiming to secure a long-term peaceful resolution to the conflict.
