At the Seventh Session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7) in Nairobi, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Musadik Malik, delivered a compelling appeal for bold and decisive action on climate change. He warned that the era of half-measures has passed and that immediate, unified global action is critical.
Addressing representatives from all 193 UN Member States, Malik stressed that climate action has moved from being a moral choice to an urgent survival imperative, particularly for vulnerable nations like Pakistan, which are already bearing disproportionate human and economic losses from environmental crises.
The high-level forum, held under the theme “Advancing Sustainable Solutions for a Resilient Planet,” brought together global leaders, civil society representatives, scientific experts, development partners, and the private sector.
Delegates discussed global policy negotiations, strategic priorities, and strengthening international environmental law to drive transformative, sustainable development. The discussions also highlighted the crucial role of global financing, cooperation, and science-based solutions to enhance resilience and long-term environmental stability.
During his address, Malik said:”Climate action is no longer a choice, it is a necessity. Nature will continue on its course. If we commit injustice against nature, nature will not care. It is we who will ultimately pay the price.” He underscored the urgent need for robust adaptation strategies, resilience-building, and equitable climate financing, warning that without unified global efforts, developing nations will continue to suffer disproportionate human, economic, and ecological losses.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to international cooperation, Malik emphasized the country’s readiness to work closely with the global community to advance effective climate solutions and strengthen multilateral environmental governance.
