Reuters– Pakistan has expressed its full support for Saudi Arabia’s ongoing efforts to ensure peace and stability in Yemen, the Foreign Office (FO) said on Saturday. In a statement released late Friday, the FO said Pakistan is closely monitoring recent developments in Yemen.
“Pakistan expresses its full support for the diplomatic efforts being undertaken by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for ensuring peace and stability in the Republic of Yemen. We also commend the efforts of the United Arab Emirates in this regard,” the statement said.
The FO emphasized the importance of preserving Yemen’s unity and territorial integrity and urged Yemeni stakeholders to avoid unilateral actions that could escalate the situation.“We call on all Yemeni parties to engage constructively and in good faith towards an inclusive, negotiated political solution based on agreed parameters,” the statement added. Pakistan expressed hope that ongoing diplomatic efforts would lead to tangible progress toward lasting peace and help end the suffering of the Yemeni people.
Earlier this month, Yemen’s main southern separatist group, the Southern Transitional Council (STC), pushed the Saudi-backed, internationally recognized government from its Aden headquarters while claiming broad control across the south.
On Friday, the UAE’s foreign ministry welcomed Saudi efforts to support security and stability in Yemen and reiterated its commitment to backing peace in the country. Saudi Arabia also called on Yemeni separatists to return recently seized territory, stressing its goal to de-escalate tensions within the government camp.
