The European Union’s lending arm, the European Investment Bank (EIB), has signed a €60 million loan agreement with Pakistan to support the provision of clean and safe drinking water for Karachi, marking its first financing operation in the country in a decade.
The agreement aims to improve access to reliable drinking water for millions of residents in Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city, where water scarcity and aging infrastructure remain major challenges.
The funding will contribute to upgrading water supply systems, reducing losses, and enhancing the overall quality and sustainability of water services.
