Reuters: U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to attend oral arguments at the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday in a case concerning birthright citizenship.
The court will hear arguments on the legality of Trumpâs directive to restrict birthright citizenship, a key part of his immigration policy. The directive, issued in January 2025, seeks to deny citizenship to children born in the United States if their parents are not citizens or legal permanent residents.
A lower court blocked the order, ruling that it violates the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which guarantees citizenship to those born on U.S. soil.
Trump has defended the policy as necessary for national security and controlling illegal immigration, while rights groups argue it undermines constitutional protections and creates fear among immigrant communities.
