RIYADH: The Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) marked its 10th anniversary on December 15, highlighting a decade of coordinated institutional efforts to strengthen security and combat terrorism and extremism across the globe.
Founded in 2015 on the initiative of King Salman and launched under the patronage of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the coalition seeks to unite the Muslim world in confronting transnational terrorist threats. A major milestone was reached in 2023 when Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman assumed the role of chairman of the coalition’s Council of Ministers of Defense, bringing enhanced oversight and renewed strategic direction.
In February 2024, Prince Khalid reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment by announcing SR100 million ($27 million) in funding, along with 46 specialized training scholarships for member states. Over the past decade, the coalition has adopted an integrated operational framework based on four pillars — intellectual, media, countering terrorist financing, and military — providing training and capacity-building support to thousands of participants.
Maj. Gen. Mohammed Al-Moghedi, Secretary-General of the coalition, said the anniversary offered an opportunity to review achievements and chart future priorities. He added that continued backing from the Kingdom would enable the coalition to expand sustainable initiatives, enhance knowledge-sharing, and deepen partnerships to promote security, peace and moderation.
