Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar held a meeting with D-8 Secretary General for Economic Cooperation, Ambassador Isiaka Abdulqadir Imam, in Baku. The two leaders discussed enhancing mutual cooperation among D-8 member states, particularly in the media sector, as well as key global issues including fake news.
Minister Tarar highlighted that fake news has become the world’s biggest challenge. He stressed the need to establish an effective fact-checking system on social media platforms under a comprehensive strategy. He said that without effectively curbing fake news, the collective narrative of D-8 countries cannot be strengthened.
The minister emphasized that member states must counter misinformation through a unified media policy. The meeting also featured detailed discussions on strengthening cultural ties among D-8 nations.
Tarar noted that cultural cooperation can promote harmony and a positive regional image, adding that collaboration in culture, communication, and technology can bring the people of D-8 countries closer together.
The information minister also appreciated the effective role of the D-8 Secretary General in promoting global economic development and regional peace. He stated that Secretary General Imam’s guidance and experience would play a vital role in achieving the organization’s objectives.
Ambassador Isiaka Abdulqadir Imam said the success of D-8 member states depends on how effectively they support each other’s development. He underscored the importance of learning from each other’s experiences in the media sector and stressed that joint training programs and workshops are essential.
The Secretary General added that strengthening cooperation under the D-8 platform is crucial for shaping a strong and positive global narrative.
