ISLAMABAD (MNN); The Ministry of Health on Sunday issued a public advisory cautioning residents of Islamabad about a likely rise in air pollution in the coming days, as persistent dry winter conditions increase the threat of smog across the capital.
According to officials, the worsening weather pattern may lead to dangerous pollution levels, posing serious risks to public health. The ministry noted that smog becomes hazardous when high concentrations of airborne particles accumulate, making Islamabad particularly vulnerable under current conditions.
Citizens have been urged to take preventive measures as pollution levels trend upward. The advisory highlighted that children, the elderly, and individuals with chronic illnesses are especially at risk and should exercise extra caution during periods of dense smog.
Health authorities warned that severe smog can aggravate respiratory and cardiac issues as well as cause eye infections and irritation.
Residents have been advised to limit unnecessary outdoor movement, keep windows and doors shut, and avoid areas with heavy pollution. The public has also been instructed to refrain from burning wood, garbage, or anything that produces smoke.
For eye irritation, the ministry recommended washing eyes with clean water, and advised people stepping outdoors to wear protective masks. Anyone experiencing chest pain or difficulty breathing should seek immediate medical attention.
Asthma and respiratory patients have been urged to keep their prescribed medication with them at all times.
The ministry further advised citizens to stay hydrated during the smog season and called for collective efforts to help reduce air pollution in the city.
