MOSCOW: Russia has expressed concern over the sharp escalation of armed clashes between Afghanistan and Pakistan, urging both sides to exercise restraint and resolve their differences through dialogue.
In a commentary issued on February 27, 2026, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated:“We are concerned about the sharp escalation of armed clashes between the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan that involve regular army units, aircraft, and heavy weapons. There are casualties and injuries on both sides, including civilians.
We call on our friendly countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan, to refrain from dangerous confrontation and return to the negotiating table to resolve their differences through political and diplomatic means.”
