ISLAMABAD (MNN); Pakistan and Türkiye advanced their energy-sector cooperation on Tuesday as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir held meetings with Türkiye’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar, who is on an official visit to Islamabad, official statement said.
During the visit, the two sides witnessed the exchange of multiple Memorandums of Understanding and agreements in the petroleum and mining sectors.
The documents included the Deed of Assignment for Eastern Offshore Indus-C and several Petroleum Concession Agreements covering Ziarat North Block, Sukkur-II Block, Deep F Block, E Block, and other offshore zones, according to a statement from the PM office.
Sharif met Bayraktar at the Prime Minister’s Office, where he underscored the historic and fraternal ties between Pakistan and Türkiye.
He expressed satisfaction over the steady progress in bilateral cooperation and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to expanding partnership, particularly in the energy, petroleum, and mineral sectors. The prime minister noted Turkish Petroleum’s engagement in offshore and onshore oil exploration in Pakistan marks a significant milestone in joint energy initiatives.
He invited Turkish companies to broaden their investment footprint in Pakistan’s growing energy market. Referring to his meetings with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan earlier this year, the prime minister stressed the importance of close coordination amid evolving regional dynamics.
Both sides agreed that a Pakistani ministerial delegation will soon visit Türkiye to explore further collaboration in the energy and power sectors.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik, Minister for Power Awais Khan Leghari, Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi, and senior officials.
The Minister also called on the field marshal at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi earlier on Tuesday. The two leaders discussed matters of mutual interest, with a focus on strengthening energy cooperation, enhancing strategic collaboration, and supporting regional stability.
Field Marshal Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to deepening ties with Türkiye, while appreciating its continued support at international forums. Bayraktar also met Power Minister Awais Leghari in Islamabad.
The minister highlighted Pakistan’s plan to privatize three electricity distribution companies and welcomed Turkish participation, noting Türkiye’s successful experience with the concessional model of power distribution.
He emphasized the need for Turkish support in training Pakistani energy-sector personnel and sought cooperation in developing Pakistan’s Integrated Energy Plan. Bayraktar expressed strong interest from Turkish investors and offered to host roadshows in Türkiye to promote investment opportunities.
